The result of wearing Hita geta made of cedar every day

I like the traditional Geta Sandals (made in Hita, Oita Prefecture) because they are easy to wear for me. The Geta is made of cedar wood from Hita. When I wore them every day, the soles of the Geta became more and more worn and battered.

So I looked for a shop to buy new Geta. I was surprised to find that clogs of this shape are hardly ever made anymore. I went to old kimono shops and shops dealing in footwear and asked them about their Geta stock, but they all replied that they didn’t have any.

Roads in modernised Japan are made of concrete and most people walk on them. So the soles of shoes nowadays are mostly made of rubber.

But I like old-fashioned Geta, so I looked around for them. Finally, I found some second-hand Geta at a kimono second hand shop and bought them.

The Geta I used to wear were made of cedar and the new ones I bought are made of paulownia, so maybe the soles will wear out even faster. Still, I like old-fashioned geta, so I intend to wear the new ones I bought.
