In the middle of the night on 22 January 2022, I was awakened by a huge earthquake. We were safe.
The quake had a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale. And Japanese seismic scale “Shindo” is the Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity scale was 5+.
The shaking was faster than the earthquake early warning alarm went off. Normally in Japan, there is a system in place to sound an earthquake early warning alarm on your mobile phone a few seconds before a major earthquake hits. However, it seems that the tremor arrived before the seismographs detected the P-wave of the earthquake. (It may be that the seismographs were not installed properly, but not sure)
