I’m the director of ”Gekkan Iwa to Kimono”（月刊 岩ときもの） online magazine. The theme of this magazine is to wear a kimono and take pictures in the rocky area.

The Japanese are not wearing kimono. I no longer see people wearing kimono in day life. I am worried that people will forget about kimono.
Many Japanese take it for granted that kimonos are beautiful and should be beautiful. And I think it’s alienating the opportunity to wear a kimono.

Many Kimono lovers is keeping beautiful Kimono image and upload beautiful Kimono photos on SNS and internet. These are so beautiful and I love them. But is Kimono only special beautiful traditional dress? I do not think so. There are various types of kimono, but the shapes are almost the same. There are formal Kimonos, and there are also casual Kimonos. Many Japanese people used to wear Kimonos in day life.

I run this site with the feeling that I want you to pay attention to the kimono. I want to say you can wear a kimono anytime, anywhere.

『月刊 岩ときもの』2020年8月18日号を更新しました。
今月号の、中身の見出し「着物との共通点を探る」では、「モンゴルの民族衣装と着物」というタイトルでお届けしています。2010年から2012年にかけての2年間、モンゴルに住んでいたことがありました。それから10年。2020年1月に再びモンゴルを訪れました。10年前はモンゴルでもモンゴルの民族衣装デールを着た人たちが首都ウランバートル市内でも見かけることが多かったのですが、今年、ウランバートルを訪ねて驚きました。デールを着た人がほとんどいないのです！民族衣装を着た人は、お坊さんか、お寺にお参りに来た地方のおじいさんくらいしか見かけなかったのです。
日本でも、普段、街中で着物を着ている人を見かけることがほとんどありません。そして、モンゴルでも同じように、民族衣装を着る人が激減しているということを目の当たりにして、驚きました。
私のモンゴル人の友人と久しぶりに会って、その話をしたら友人が「そのことは世界中で起きていることで、私の留学時代の親友のブルガリア人も、地方の伝統文化を守るために民族衣装を着て伝統舞踊を継承していくよう、常に祭りに参加してきているけれど、若手が新しく入ってくることはないみたい。常に若手のポジションに自分がいて、そのまま時間が過ぎていくわ、と言っていたわ」と、悲し気に話してくれたのが印象的でした。どこの国も同じなのだと思うのですが、これからの時代は、無くなっていくことを悲しむのではなく、その歴史文化に思いをはせて楽しむということも大切なのでは、と思うのです。イベントと言う形での継続は難しくなるのかもしれませんが、やってみたいと思ったときに、自らチャレンジして体験し、楽しむという考え方で動いて行けば、とても豊かな時間が過ごせるのではないかしら、と思うのです。
