We held Segaki ceremony as part of a memorial service in the open space of the village. In our village we build a small boat for the dead. We will bring rice, vegetables and dumplings to the ship. After the sutras have been donated, the ship is brought to the sea and burned. Nowadays, we don’t burn all ships in consideration of the environment. However, in the past, this small boat was made of wood and burned at sea after the memorial service to mourn the dead.
After Segaki ceremony, every year we dance Bon Odori Dance which is a traditional Japanese dance that makes you imagine people dancing with their ancestors. Due to the influence of COVID-19, this year’s Bon Odori has been canceled. I am sorry that the Bon Odori was canceled.
”Kawamichi” is a store name that has been running for over 100 years.Every year, I performed Bon Odori for the memorial service of the ancestors of “Kawamichi” , and I felt sorry for the cancellation.
